President calls for closing Guantanamo bay, handing over Yemeni detainees
SANA’A, Jan. 12 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh summoned on Saturday the USA ambassador here Steven Seche and handed him a letter to President George W. Bush concerning current developments in the region and Yemeni detainees in Guantanamo Bay. The letter expressed Yemen’s aspiration for US administration’s initiative for releasing all detainees in Guantanamo detention camp in consonant with human rights norms, freedom and justice ideals the United State of America has embarked on. The letter renewed call for releasing Yemeni detainees in Guantanamo and handing them over to Yemeni government and also handing over other Yemeni prisoners in the American prisons, on top of them are Mohammad al-Mayad and his companion Mohammad Zayed. The letter dealt with current visit of president Bush to the area and Yemen’s hope for bringing Bush’s comprehensive peace efforts into success. MS/AM Saba
