President calls for early presidential elections to avoid bloodshed

SANA’A, May 20 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh called on Friday to hold early presidential elections to avoid bloodshed so that the Yemeni people can elect the president they trust in, in the coming period in a democratic and smooth way. “We are with elections and the General People’s Congress and the national coalition parties will continue to exist either in power or as opposition,” President Saleh said in his speech to his supporters at Al-Sabeen Square in the capital. “If the General People’s Congress and the national coalition parties will become as opposition they will practice opposition according to the democratic principles and will teach other parties which do not know how opposition must be,” he added. President Saleh expressed confidence that the people who have been firm along four months in front of coup movement and treason will continue to be strong in the face of all difficulties and challenges. He welcomed the masses who attended to support him on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the Yemeni Unification, May 22, 1990. President Saleh thanked them for their loyal stances. AMAM Saba
