Rally in Sayon supports President’s initiative, refuses violence

SAYON, March 16 (Saba) – A mass rally was held on Wednesday in Sayon city of Hadramout governorate supporting the President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s initiative and refusing all acts of violence and sabotage.A number of clerics, social figures and civil society organizations in Wadi and desert districts participated in the rally that was held under the slogan “Yes for security and stability … Yes for dialogue”.The participants in the rally lifted President Saleh’s photos and banners, confirming their support for the political leadership and their rejection of the calls for sedition among the country’s citizens as well as their commitment to the democratic approach adopted in Yemen.In the rally, a number of speeches were delivered, showed the attitudes of the sons of the Wadi and desert districts backing up the stability and security of the country, calling the political powers to return to the dialogue to put an end to the current crisis.The speeches condemned all attempts to spread chaos and disturb the peace of the community, demanding the leadership of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMPs) to choose the dialogue rather than violence and protests.President Saleh announced last Thursday in the General National Conference held in Sana’a an initiative includes forming a committee from Parliament and Shura Councils and political powers to prepare a new constitution based on the separation of powers to be brought to vote by the end of 2011.The initiative includes transferring government powers to an elected parliamentary system by the end 2011, shifting the local authority to full-power local ruling, establishing Yemeni regions on the grounds of economic and geographical criteria and prepare a new election law includes proportional representation in addition to forming a new government of national unity.AF/AF
