President Saleh inspects situation in Jabal al-Tair island after volcanic eruption
HODEIDAH – President Ali Abdullah Saleh has visited
the headquarters of Naval Forces and Coastal Defense in Hodeidah to observe the situation in the Yemeni island of Jabal al-Tair after a volcanic eruption off the Red Sea rocked the island Sunday evening.
The volcanic eruption occurred on Sunday on Jabal al-Tair island, about 80 miles from Hodeidah coasts.
President Saleh was acquired operations of rescuing personnel of a Yemeni military unite placed on the island, who were evacuated by the military ships which still being sought after eight soldiers
were missing.
President Saleh ordered the concerned bodies to take all necessary actions for rescuing and evacuating all soldiers of the military unit, and follow up any developments from the ongoing volcanic eruption on the island.

The Earthquake Observation Center in Dhamar province has said that the center observed on 28 September earthquakes of 3.7 on the Richter scale hit the area near the island.
In a statement to Saba, the center added that the earthquakes in that area began on 07 September and increased on 23 and 24.
