Saleh, European Parliament President discuss cooperation ties

BRUSSELS, Jan. 31(Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh discussed Thursday with President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Pöttering mutual cooperation relations between Yemen and European Union and means of enhancing and improving them. In their meeting held in the Belgium’s capital Brussels, President Saleh and Pöttering talked on the situations in the Middle East region, top of which developments in Palestine, Iraq, Somalia and the Horn of Africa. The meeting also dealt with preparations for President’s Saleh’s expected visit to the European Parliament where he would deliver a speech before its members. President Saleh affirmed the importance of EU’s role must be played in promoting peace process in the Middle East on the basis of international legislation concerning the Arab-Israeli conflict and other issues in the region, confirming Yemen’s keenness to develop its relations with EU. ” It is a great occasion to visit the headquarter of EU’s parliament to highlight legislative achievements it realizes in organizing European nations and making them as an economic and political force has an increasing effect,” said Saleh.
